Perched on a rocky promontory at the Duong Dong River mouth, Dinh Cau Temple is a small but powerfully atmospheric seafarers' shrine — incense smoke, coloured lanterns, offerings of fresh fruit, and an unobstructed view over the fishing fleet anchored in the river. The walk from the bungalows through the old fishing village lanes to the temple takes 15 minutes on foot and is best done at dusk.
The covered central market opens from 5 am to noon and is the island's freshest source of tropical fruit, Phu Quoc black pepper, dried squid, and mam tom shrimp paste. A bag of locally grown peppercorns costs $2–3 and makes the best souvenir from Phu Quoc. The market also has a wet-food section with stalls serving chao ca (fish rice porridge) and banh mi thit from sunrise.
The northern section of Long Beach (Bai Truong) begins just 1 km from Duong Dong town centre — a 10-minute walk down Beach Road or a 3-minute motorbike ride. Phu Quoc is the origin of Vietnam's two most famous condiments — Phu Quoc black pepper and Phu Quoc fish sauce (nuoc mam).
