What Is Long Beach and Why Do Most Bungalows End Up Here?
Bai Truong — Long Beach in English — is the 20 km strip running along Phu Quoc's entire western coast. It starts roughly where Duong Dong town ends in the north and continues south past a succession of resorts, bungalow clusters, and small guesthouses almost to the An Thoi port. The beach faces west across the Gulf of Thailand toward Cambodia, which means flat-water sunsets every clear evening from November to April.
Most bungalow accommodation on Phu Quoc is on Long Beach, and for a straightforward reason: the land is more affordable here than on the southeast coast, access to the main town is easy, and you have the sunset built in. We've been on this beach since 2018 and watched the northern stretch develop considerably — the southern half is still the same mix of palms, fishing boats, and small properties it was when we opened.
The water temperature sits around 28-30°C in the dry season and drops to about 26°C at the coolest part of February. That's still warm enough that guests from northern Europe jump in immediately and spend the first afternoon convinced they've found the ocean of their dreams. By day three they've noticed the seagrass at certain tidal points and adjusted their expectations — which is fine. This is a working coastal beach, not a filtered photograph. Does It Matter Which Part of Long Beach You Stay On?
Yes, quite a lot. The northern section — roughly the 4 km closest to Duong Dong, centred on Tran Hung Dao Street — is dense with restaurants, bars, dive shops, and tourist services. Jet-ski operators park on the beach from about 9 AM. In high season (December-January) this stretch is loud until midnight in places. It suits people who want everything within a few minutes' walk and don't mind background noise.
The central section — 4-10 km from town — is where our bungalows are. Restaurants thin out but don't disappear; the nearest good seafood dinner is about 800 metres by road. You hear the sea in the evening instead of club music. Guests who come here specifically to read and swim tend to stay an extra night or two, which I've noticed is not something that happens with the people staying near the bar strip.
South of the 10 km mark, Long Beach gets increasingly remote. The beach is still excellent — often cleaner sand than the north, fewer people — but you need a motorbike for everything, and some access roads past the 13 km mark aren't lit at night. We don't operate down there, but we get enquiries from people who discover the southern end independently and want to understand it. Short version: peaceful, logistically demanding.
What Types of Bungalows Are on Long Beach and What Do They Cost?
Three categories cover most of what you'll find on the central-to-south strip in 2026. Beachfront bungalows sit 10-30 metres from the waterline with a direct view of the Gulf; these run $45-90 per night at direct-booking rates and book out earliest. Garden eco-cabins are set back 50-150 metres among coconut palms — lower cost ($25-50 per night), quieter at night, still within a 3-minute walk to the water. Pool bungalows — either a shared pool complex or a private plunge pool — run $60-120 per night and are the right choice for guests who want to spend mornings in the pool before hitting the beach.
Those ranges are for direct booking. OTA platforms typically add 15-20% on top (their commission passed to you as higher listed prices), which is why we always point guests toward WhatsApp or the booking form first. The room is identical; the price isn't.

How Far Is the Duong Dong Night Market and What's Worth Eating?
The Duong Dong night market is at the northern end of Long Beach, around 4-6 km by road from our central bungalow cluster. On a motorbike: 10-15 minutes. By Grab: roughly 40,000-60,000 VND each way. Most guests go two or three times during a week's stay and quickly settle on a preference — there's a grilled squid vendor near the river end who does whole squid over charcoal and has been there as long as we've been on this beach.
The market sells the usual mix: grilled seafood, Vietnamese street food, fruit shakes, T-shirts, and a lot of imitation goods. The seafood side is the reason to go. Prices are negotiable in the market stalls but fixed at the more established restaurants around the perimeter; asking once is fine, haggling aggressively over 20,000 VND tends to sour the transaction. Busy from around 6 PM to 10 PM; quieter midweek.
There are also proper seafood restaurants along the beach road in the northern strip if you'd rather sit down properly. The ones right on the waterfront between the 2 km and 4 km marks from Duong Dong are our preference for a slow dinner — tables in the sand, lanterns, the same grilled fish you'd find at the market but served with cold beer and no need to manage a plastic plate while standing. Can You Snorkel from Long Beach and Is It Worth Doing?
The honest answer: the snorkelling directly off Long Beach is decent rather than special. There are coral patches 200-400 metres offshore from the central strip, reachable on the small wooden boats that leave from the beach for around 100,000-150,000 VND per person. In December and January the visibility gets down to 8-10 metres on a calm day. By March a plankton bloom often cuts that to 3-4 metres for a week or two and the experience suffers.
For the island's best reef diving you need to head south to the An Thoi archipelago — roughly 30 islands off Phu Quoc's southern tip. That's a full-day boat trip departing from An Thoi port, not something you do on a whim on Tuesday afternoon. The dive operators on the northern Long Beach strip sell these trips and the quality varies a fair bit. We tend to point guests toward the ones who've been running for more than three years; turnover in that business is high.
If you're a strong swimmer and want to go offshore independently: don't. Long Beach has boat traffic — ferries, fishing boats, tourist speedboats — and without an orange buoy you're hard to spot from a moving vessel. Stick to the wooden snorkel boats or wear a surface marker. We keep two buoys at the property for guests who ask. Ong Lang is calmer for snorkelling — 15 minutes north.
When Is the Best Time to Stay on Long Beach?
November to April is the dry season and the clear answer for most guests. Rain is rare, swells stay small, and the water is calm enough for comfortable swimming through most of the strip. December and January are the peak — bungalow availability tightens from late October onward and we typically fill 6-7 weeks in advance for the Christmas-New Year window. Book early or manage your expectations.
May through October is the southwest monsoon. Long Beach faces directly into the prevailing wind, so this period brings regular afternoon rain, occasional 0.5-1 m swells, and some stretches with jellyfish from August on. It's not dangerous and it's not unpleasant in the mornings — but it is different from the dry season and we'd rather say that plainly than let a guest discover it mid-trip. Prices in wet season are 25-35% lower, which is why some guests plan their visits deliberately for May or October.
March and April are our personal favourite months. The crowds thin from the January peak, the sea is still calm, and the sunsets go orange-pink in a way that January's haze sometimes suppresses. Prices are mid-range. If you're flexible, this window is underrated. Seasonal pricing breakdown here.
How Do You Get Around from Long Beach?
A motorbike covers everything. The island's main north-south road runs parallel to Long Beach and connects Duong Dong in the north to An Thoi in the south; both ends are under 25 km from the central bungalow area. We include a free motorbike with stays of 3 nights or more. For shorter stays, rental shops near the property charge 120,000-150,000 VND per day (check current rates; fuel costs shift these).
If you'd rather not ride: Grab works on Phu Quoc and covers most routes. Mai Linh taxis also operate on the island — flag them on the road or ask us to call. A ride from our central bungalow location to Duong Dong runs around 40,000-60,000 VND; to the An Thoi ferry terminal roughly 80,000-110,000 VND.
Phu Quoc Airport is southeast of Duong Dong, about 9-10 km by road from our property. Arriving guests coming straight from the airport drive through or past Duong Dong before reaching us; it's a logical place to stop at the market for supplies before check-in if you arrive midday. The road is straightforward.
Who Is Long Beach Right For — and Who Might Prefer Ong Lang?
Long Beach makes sense if you want variety close to hand: the night market, multiple restaurants at different price points, easy transport connections, and a long stretch of sand to walk. Guests who come for a week and want to move around — day trip to the south coast, ferry to An Thoi, morning at the market, evening out — get the most from a Long Beach base. The convenience is genuine.
Ong Lang, 8 km north, is quieter. Fewer services, smaller bay, no jet-ski operators. We have guests who book Long Beach initially and then ask to switch partway through the week. We also have guests who book Ong Lang and spend a morning on Long Beach and decide they prefer the action. Neither is wrong; they're different trips. The practical difference: from Ong Lang you need a motorbike for dinner options. From our central Long Beach bungalows, walking to food in the evening is possible.
Active travellers — people who want snorkelling, day trips, and evening options — tend to pick Long Beach. Guests who primarily want to read, sleep, and swim without a schedule tend to end up preferring Ong Lang or the southern half of Long Beach.
